I realise that means a lot of DJs in this sub have lost gigs and income too, for those that have been doing it on top of a regular job and still have a good income let's show our support buy by paying for music to make sure the flow of music doesn't slow down or stop (it's one of the few things keeping me sane at the moment). Now is more important than ever that we pay for our music, let's keep our favourite artists going, the big benefit to this almost global lockdown is that they've got tons more studio time as they no longer have busy travel schedules so hopefully we'll start seeing an influx of great new tunes coming out soon. Given the current situation with pretty much all club and festival gigs cancelled / postponed this means a large portion of our favourite artists income has been cut off, and it's now down to their native countries governments to top up their income (for those that are offering it). With most small / underground genres the producers aren't making a ton of money, there are a few at the top who could be considered high earners but a lot of their income is topped up by DJing or playing live shows, music sales alone aren't enough to pay the bills for the majority of producers in smaller more niche genres. Now onto the piracy aspect, I'm talking mainly about the smaller underground genres and producers here too, multi-millionaire pop stars and record labels aren't included in what I'm about to say but I'm not saying it's ok to pirate top 40 stuff either. Putting piracy to one side for a moment ripping is bad anyway for us DJs, you lose a lot of quality and ripped tracks aren't suitable to be played out in a club or on any decent sound system, even just while you're getting started I wouldn't use ripped tracks as they'll linger in your collection and when you do start playing gigs you run the risk of playing a crappy quality track by accident. I wanted to talk about torrenting, MP3/FLAC sharing sites or ripping from youtube, soundcloud, spotify etc.
